La Zenia - Cala Bosque, Cala Cerrada and the Playa Flamenca market

La Zenia

What makes La Zenia special? Beaches, short distances, infrastructure and the important Saturday market. An overview of life on the southern Costa Blanca

La Zenia
La Zenia is a compact coastal section of the municipality of Orihuela Costa. The town has a tidy, well-organised feel and is strongly influenced by daily life: short distances to the coast, services in the immediate vicinity and an international environment that defines everyday life. The development is modern, many of the streets are well laid out and the connections to Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada are reliable.

Everyday life in a mixed residential area
La Zenia is not a historic place, but a residential area that has developed into a stable centre of life over the years. Many people stay for the long term: Spanish families, newcomers from northern Europe, professionals who commute along the N-332 and residents who have found their centre of life here.

The infrastructure is geared towards everyday life: small surgeries, pharmacies, supermarkets, craft businesses, sports facilities and restaurants that are more of a neighbourhood character than a tourist destination. Many things can be done on foot, the rest is just a few minutes away by car.

Two beaches that belong to the village
The coast of La Zenia consists of two clearly defined bays:

  • Cala Bosque - Easily accessible, small catering area, often used by local residents
  • Cala Cerrada - sheltered bay between rocks and sand

Both beaches are close to residential areas and are used more for short breaks than for long days at the beach. Connecting paths and steps make access easier.

Purchasing and supply - compact solution
Over the years, a dense offer has developed around the main streets that makes the town practical: supermarkets, fitness studios, cafés, service providers, small boutiques and speciality shops.
There are other amenities in the immediate vicinity - for example in Playa Flamenca, Los Dolses or Cabo Roig - which complement everyday life without having to travel far.

Market - central for La Zenia
One market is particularly relevant for weekly shopping:

Playa Flamenca market

  • Saturday, approx. 08:00-14:00
  • one of the largest markets in the municipality of Orihuela Costa
  • Food, plants, clothing, household items
  • Only a few minutes away on foot or by bike

The market is an integral part of the weekly routine for many local residents.

Transport and connections
Its location between two main axes makes La Zenia easily accessible:

  • N-332 as a coastal connection
  • AP-7 (La Zenia exit) for quick routes into the hinterland
  • Buses to Torrevieja, Cartagena and Guardamar
  • Easy access to Alicante-Elche airport

Many residents commute regularly - the structure of the town is geared towards this.

What characterises the place
La Zenia has no historic centre and no major landmarks. Instead, these elements define the place:

  • Two beaches in the immediate vicinity
  • an international environment
  • A dense everyday infrastructure
  • Reliable transport routes
  • a large weekly market in the immediate vicinity
  • Short distances between housing, supply and coast

It is a place that functions in everyday life - unagitated, but very stable.

La Zenia in one sentence?
A modern stretch of coast that impresses with its suitability for everyday use and international mix.
