Kathmandu Albir - Nepalese-Indian cuisine Costa Blanca

Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword, but part of everyday life – here on the Costa Blanca too. Between Dénia and Villajoyosa, it is clear how seriously the entire region now takes this issue: farmers are switching to organic farming, local authorities are investing in water recycling, solar energy and the circular economy, and more and more consumers are opting for regional products and sustainable mobility. Over the last ten years, there have been visible changes in Marina Alta and Marina Baixa. Organic farming areas are growing, energy communities are emerging, and cities are developing concrete climate plans that go beyond symbolic politics. The change is particularly tangible in the way resources – water, energy and land – are used: consciously, efficiently and with a long-term perspective. At the same time, attitudes towards consumption and tourism are changing. Whether it's weekly markets, direct marketing or sustainable accommodation, there is a growing awareness that regionality and responsibility go hand in hand. Tourism is also increasingly focusing on quality rather than quantity: environmentally certified hotels, gentle mobility and local value creation ensure that this region remains liveable not only today but also tomorrow – for everyone who lives here and for those who visit it with respect. What at first glance may seem like small steps, when taken together, add up to a movement – and show how ideas become the future. In the following pages, we accompany you on this journey: from organic farming to water and energy to mobility and modern consumption.

Since 2017, Kathmandu Albir has been enriching the culinary scene of Marina Baixa with flavours that are otherwise only known from distant regions. The restaurant is part of a success story that began in Moraira in 2008 and has continued through Dénia, Jávea, Valencia and Benidorm to the coast of Albir. The philosophy has remained the same at all locations: honest cuisine, authentic in taste and prepared with fresh ingredients.

Visitors here will experience cuisine that goes far beyond the usual image of a „curry house“. Nepalese-Indian cuisine combines mild and strong spices, earthy aromas and delicate herbal notes to create a balanced taste experience. The menu features classics such as creamy butter chicken, lamb rogan josh with tomatoes and spices from northern India, and Goan prawn curry, which surprises with coconut milk, curry leaves and a hint of lime. Particularly popular are the dishes from the tandoori oven – such as chicken tikka sizzler or lamb sekuwa, crispy on the outside and tender and aromatic on the inside.

The momos, delicate, hand-formed dumplings filled with meat or vegetables and steamed, are a must-try. In Nepal, they are considered an everyday dish, but here they have long since become a speciality.

The vegetarian and vegan options are just as varied: Saag Paneer, Chana Masala, Aloo Gobi and Vegetable Korma demonstrate how diverse and balanced Himalayan cuisine can be – spicy, but never overpowering.

The atmosphere at Kathmandu Albir is calm, modern and pleasantly unpretentious. Warm colours, clean lines and subtle music create an atmosphere that leaves room for the essentials – the food. The portions are generous, the prices fair, and anyone who tries their way through the menu will quickly discover that consistency and quality are the order of the day here.

Many guests are regulars – residents from Albir, Benidorm or Altea as well as visitors from the hinterland. Some appreciate the classic cuisine, others the selection for vegetarians or the menu for two, which offers a good overview of the variety of dishes. Those who wish can round off their meal with a light Spanish white wine or a cool Nepalese beer – a combination that harmonises surprisingly well.

Kathmandu Albir stands for authentic cuisine that does not get lost in show effects, but focuses on craftsmanship. A place where you feel welcome – and to which you are happy to return.
