Costa Blanca Family Law 2025 - More rights and support
This year, Spain's new Family Law (Ley de Familias) comes into force – and it could bring about lasting change to family policy in the country. The government wants to use it to respond to Spain's demographic challenges, which make it difficult for many couples to fulfil their desire to have children. Low incomes, high rents and job insecurity are not a good basis for having a baby – the new law aims to change this.
The new family law aims to give parents concrete financial and legal support so that family planning is no longer dependent on income Costa and at the same time promotes modern working models so that parents can spend time with their children Blanca.
What does the new family law bring?
The Ley de Familias extends rights and creates financial incentives to make everyday life easier for families and single parents.
Here are the most important new features:
• Single-parent families with two children will in future be treated in the same way as large families and will benefit from the same concessions.
• Caring for relatives: Parents or other family members who care for sick children or relatives are entitled to longer paid leave.
• £100 per month for new mothers: a small but helpful contribution during the first few months.
• Breastfeeding leave: Paid breastfeeding leave is extended to 28 days to improve work-life balance.
• Equality for all family forms: Unmarried couples are granted similar rights to married couples.
Greater security and flexibility
The law is primarily intended to support women who wish to have children. This includes:
• Rent subsidies to alleviate housing problems.
• Higher minimum wages to secure the financial basis.
• More flexible working hours to promote a better work-life balance.
The objective is clear: Having children should not remain an unattainable dream, but rather a genuine option – regardless of income and family status.
Where can I find information?
Those affected and interested can find out about the new regulations on the official website of the Spanish Ministry of Social Affairs: www.mscbs.gob.es. There you will also find instructions on how to apply for benefits and other support.
A modern vision for families
The new law is a major step towards modern family policy in Spain. It attempts to remove barriers that have previously prevented many people from starting a family or providing optimal support for their existing family. The law may not be the ultimate solution, but it shows that Spain is moving forward – and families are finally being put in the spotlight.
Tip: Keep your sense of humour handy, because bureaucracy is bureaucracy. But who knows? Perhaps applying for £100 in child benefit is easier than you think.
