April brings movement to the calendar on the Costa Blanca. In addition to these traditional moments, the festival includes programme items such as the Día de la Gloria, the Día de los Músicos and La Trilogía.
Pedreguer is bringing a different format to the stage on Saturday, 18 April. The choir Modern Espai Gospel Cor, MEGÒC for short, will be performing at the Espai Cultural La Pista at 7 pm. A programme with more than 80 singers and a live band has been announced that combines gospel with R&B, soul, pop and rock ’n’ roll. The choir was founded in Oliva in 2015 and has developed into one of the region's most striking choir formations in recent years, not least because of its more scenic approach. In Pedreguer, the evening also has a clear local function: the proceeds are earmarked for the animal welfare organisation Els Poets. The organisers are the municipality and the animal welfare organisation itself. This makes the event more than just a concert evening; it is also an expression of the dense association and cultural structure that characterises many places on the northern Costa Blanca.
If you visit Pedreguer again at the end of April, you will find the next cultural connection right there. Around the Diada del 25 d'Abril, there will be a book presentation at the Casa Municipal de Cultura on 23 April, a concert by Xiomara Abello in La Pista on 25 April and a literary hike to les Basses de l'Ocaive on 26 April. Pedreguer is a pretty good example of how smaller towns define their April not through individual major events, but through a series of events that bring together literature, music and local commitment.
The next „concierto sanitario“ of the Francisco Casanovas inclusive music course will take place on Friday, 24 April at 11 a.m. at the Centro de Día „Torrenova“ of ADIEM Torrevieja. The format relocates music to places where it is not intended to be decorative, but to reach users, relatives and staff directly. Following the recent concert at CRIS ADIEM, the next date has already been confirmed. Especially in a city like Torrevieja, which is often reduced to its big fiestas and summer formats, this event sets a different tone: culture as a social practice, not as a backdrop.
The Casino Mediterráneo in the La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre is hosting an exhibition by the Art en Comú collective until 13 May. Surrealist works by various members are on display, including pieces by Vicente Belmonte, Miguel Corredor, Vicente Blanca and Eliseo Amat. The exciting thing about this show is not so much the classic white cube setting as its location: in the middle of a commercial environment, between the public, catering and casino. This creates a different approach. The exhibition does not have to be „sought out“, it appears in everyday life. For Orihuela Costa, where cultural events are often less visible than in historic city centres, this is a very clever approach
