Your academy is located on the El Arenal promenade in Javea. How does this environment inspire
Your members?
Javea is one of the most impressive towns on the Costa Blanca, known for its idyllic beaches, the Montgó Natural Park and the Sant Antoni Marine Reserve. Historical sights such as the 15th century fishing harbour and the varied culinary offer give the town its special charm. This environment not only provides inspiration, but also access to an international community where boxing is increasingly being integrated into schools. Our academy plans to develop programmes for schools and the general public to promote this dynamic.

How does your experience as a boxer and MBE award winner characterise your academy?
Boxing has been with me since I was eight years old. It has helped me to develop self-confidence and respect - values that I want to pass on today. In my career, I have realised how boxing teaches discipline and keeps young people away from negative influences.

I received the MBE award for founding a rehabilitation centre for young people with learning difficulties. There, we combined boxing training with craft courses to give the participants a perspective for working life. Boxing offers young people not only physical fitness, but also a platform to build mental strength, concentration and resilience.

You offer programmes for all levels. How do you cater to the different needs of your members?
Boxing is a sport that breaks down all boundaries - gender, skin colour or nationality play no role here. The only things that count in the gym are discipline, work ethic and the will to achieve goals. The development of women's boxing is particularly impressive. Female boxers have proven that they are just as successful and passionate as their male counterparts. Their successes are inspiring a new generation and leading boxing into an inclusive future.

Boxing strengthens and builds resistance capable. Can you tell us a success story from your academy?
The lessons that boxing teaches are far-reaching. It's not just about physical fitness, but also about respect, self-defence and discipline. A quote that describes our philosophy well is: „You don't play boxing.“ It is a sport that teaches profound life lessons - an experience that has a lasting impact on many of our members.

The expat community in Javea is vibrant. How does this multicultural mix influence your approach?
Boxing is perceived differently around the world: In some cultures as a noble sport, in others as a means of self-realisation. This diversity influences how the sport is taught and practised. Our academy teaches respect for all cultures and favours inclusive cooperation, regardless of ethnic, social or gender differences.

Your academy will open in January 2025.
What are your long-term goals?

Our aim is to integrate boxing into schools, universities and communities. We want boxing to be recognised not just as a sport, but as a tool for personal and social development. We want to bring about positive change with programmes that promote concentration, motivation and progress.

How does the Mediterranean lifestyle of the Costa Blanca characterise the atmosphere of your academy?
The Costa Blanca offers a unique blend of excellent transport links, a mild climate and cultural diversity. This environment creates an atmosphere that inspires and motivates our members.

Do you use technology to improve training?
Yes, we use interactive technologies such as videos, simulations and gamification to make training more effective and engaging. These methods not only promote attention, but also make learning more exciting.

What differences have you noticed in boxing between Spain and other countries?
Spain plays a central role in international boxing. It was a founding member of the World Boxing Council in 1963 and has produced major champions ever since. Boxing styles around the world vary greatly - from the precise techniques of American boxing to the intense aggression of Mexican fighters. This diversity is what makes the sport so fascinating.

What motivates you and what would you like to pass on to the municipality of Javea?
For me, boxing is more than a sport - it is a metaphor for the struggles and triumphs of life. Our academy should be a safe place where values such as respect, discipline and community are practised.
We want to build bridges between cultures with international training camps and events. Our aim is to inspire young people and help them to master their personal challenges.
Our vision includes a network of boxing gyms that promote inclusivity, health and well-being - for a better and more peaceful world.
