Political dispute over unfinished promenade in Altea

New beach promenade in Altea

In Altea, the halt to construction work on the seafront promenade in the middle of the summer season is causing political controversy. The Partido Popular (PP) criticises the „danger“ posed by the unfinished underground rubbish containers on Calle Sant Pere, while the government stresses that the coastal authority is responsible for completing the project.

According to PP spokeswoman Rocío Gómez, the unfinished work near the El Bol promenade, which was opened two years ago, poses a danger to residents and tourists. However, the town council points out that the responsibility lies with the coastal authority and not with the town hall.Gómez criticises the fact that the temporary fencing looks like a „chicken coop“ and gives a bad impression of Altea. Since the opening of the promenade in December 2022, after nineteen months of construction work, there have been constant complaints about the unfinished containers.

The PP is calling for an immediate solution from the mayor, Diego Zaragozí, while the councillor for infrastructure, Aurora Serrat, emphasises that the works are not the responsibility of the town hall. She recalls that El Bol Park received the first Sustainable Mobility Award in the Valencian Community in October 2023, which demonstrates the positive work of the government.
