The Christmas markets on the Costa Blanca are not copies of northern European models, but local events that focus on crafts, associations and gastronomy. Many towns only publish their programmes in November - but the character remains similar every year.
Dénia traditionally opens the season at the end of November with the Mercat de Nadal along Calle La Vía. Local producers, schools and associations organise the programme.
Jávea transforms the harbour promenade into a diverse market zone at the beginning of December - with arts and crafts, workshops and child-friendly areas.
Altea is organised by 5 to 8 December its Mercado Navideño, a curated format with selected stands and a musical setting.
Finestrat transforms its old town centre into a small Advent village in mid-December. Although the exact dates vary every year, the market remains a regional fixture.
Advent is also present south of Alicante: El Campello, Santa Pola and Villajoyosa each organise their own market formats and lighting programmes. In Torrevieja a Christmas zone with arts and crafts, gastronomy and a stage programme will be created on Paseo Vista Alegre. The city is already switching on its lights on 22 November in.
The largest framework offers Alicante: Switching on the lighting on the 21 November a programme that extends into January with the monumental Belén Gigante, the Feria de Navidad in the Rabasa area and numerous city centre events.
