Safari Aitana: Adventure or everyday life? A look behind the scenes

Experience African wildlife in the heart of the Sierra Aitana - an excursion destination that inspires and discussed.

Safari parks polarise opinion: For some they are a fascinating adventure, for others they raise questions about the ethics of animal husbandry. Safari Aitana, nestled in the picturesque mountains of Alicante, promises a close-to-nature safari experience - and relies on spacious enclosures, well-trained staff and species-appropriate husbandry. But how well does the park really perform? We took a closer look.

Close to nature or just a backdrop?
The park extends over 1.5 million square metres and is home to over 100 animal species. Particularly impressive is the large outdoor area for peacefully co-existing animal species such as zebras, camels, llamas, giraffes, buffaloes, goats and ponies. These animals harmoniously share the extensive grazing areas, which reinforces the impression of an authentic wildlife experience for many visitors.
Predators such as lions and tigers, on the other hand, live in separate, spacious enclosures that meet their behaviour and safety requirements.

Another highlight is the friendly and well-trained staff, who impress with their expertise and patience both during the guided tours and when answering questions about the animal world. Their work plays a decisive role in making the visit not only entertaining but also educational.

Winter visit: the perfect time?
The winter months offer a relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Without the oppressive summer heat, the animals are more active during the day and the park feels less crowded. This makes Safari Aitana an attractive destination for families and animal lovers, especially in the low season.

How much does the fun cost?
- Admission prices: Adults €25, children (4-10 years) €21, children under 4 years free of charge.
- Winter opening hours (October to May):
11:00 - 18:00
- Opening hoursSummer (June to September):
11:00 - 19:00

A double-edged sword?
Despite its strengths, Safari Aitana is not without its critics. The focus on large, iconic species such as lions and elephants could give the impression that other, lesser-known animals take a back seat. Nevertheless, the park emphasises that species-appropriate husbandry and educational work have top priority.

The spacious enclosures and the efforts to ensure species-appropriate conditions show that there is more on offer here than just a show programme. Educational aspects, the protection of endangered species and the focus on a harmonious coexistence of the animals clearly speak in favour of the park.

Worth a visit?
Safari Aitana offers the opportunity to experience animals in a spacious and natural environment. In particular, the large outdoor area for peacefully coexisting species, the well-organised guided tours and the dedicated staff make the park a highly recommended destination for families and nature lovers.

Pack your camera and experience the animal world up close - critically, but with amazement!
