When the temperatures rise and the hustle and bustle along the coastal promenades increases, many residents and visitors alike ask the same question: where can you enjoy the summer on the Costa Blanca - without getting caught up in the heat or the hustle and bustle?
We looked around between Dénia and Villajoyosa and tracked down places where you can spend warm days with a bit of peace, a view or authenticity - without any tourist gimmicks.
Between pine trees and windswept rocks, the Cap de Sant Antoni viewpoint not only offers impressive views of the sea, but also a welcome breeze - even on hot days. If you arrive early in the morning, you will usually only come across walkers, painters or locals with coffee cups in their hands.
Almost every town on the Costa Blanca has them: small and large squares where life has its very own rhythm in summer. Locals meet for a chat under shady plane trees or palm trees, while visitors watch the hustle and bustle over a café con hielo. Whether in Altea, Dénia, Jávea or Benidorm - there are often several such squares that invite you to take a deep breath and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at any time of day. It gets particularly lively on market days, when a little shopping quickly turns into a cosy meeting place.
A pretty, small beach directly behind the old watchtower - less well-known than the large beaches in the centre and therefore usually pleasantly quiet. Although there are only a few sun loungers, there is plenty of space to make yourself comfortable with your own towel. Two small chiringuitos provide cold drinks and snacks, and parking is available nearby. Ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing swim and the summer without the hustle and bustle.
Admittedly, it is not located directly on the coast, but it is an alternative when even the sea can no longer cool you down: The Font Salada natural spring offers constantly cool water and a peaceful atmosphere. Locals have been using it for generations - an insider tip for a half-day in the countryside, especially in midsummer.
Those who are prepared to start the day early will be rewarded in the Serra Gelada Nature Park - with a walk to the old lighthouse station and a panorama over the coast that is both impressive and tranquil. Ideal for those who want to start the day with exercise and a view before the heat takes over.
Summer on the Costa Blanca doesn't have to be loud, crowded or over-staged. Between Dénia and Villajoyosa, there are places that bring back the quality that many people are looking for here, especially in the high season: Peace, shade and a touch of originality.
