Albir - Residential area between pine forest and natural beach

Albir - A place to live, not just for holidays

Between Benidorm and Altea, where the coastline becomes a little quieter and everyday life more Mediterranean, lies Albir - a district of the municipality Alfaz del Pi. Anyone arriving here quickly realises that Albir is not a classic seaside resort, but a mature residential area with a clear focus on quality of life. A place that is characterised above all by its international residents - among them many northern Europeans, including numerous German-speaking residents.

Urban development & history

Albir is not a town in its own right, but a modern, mature neighbourhood of Alfaz del Pi. Development began to increase in the 1980s, when international residents - particularly from northern Europe - began to settle here permanently. The proximity to the Serra Gelada Nature Park and the deliberate development of an open, low-rise and well-serviced residential structure by the sea have made Albir a favoured place to live - with a strong international character but good community integration.

Beach, promenade and a touch of film history

Playa de l'Albir is the centrepiece of the town - a clean, well-kept pebble beach with crystal-clear water, awarded the Blue Flag. The long beach promenade (Paseo de las Estrellas) features plaques commemorating the annual Festival de Cine de l'Alfàs del Pi, which also turns Albir into the cultural centre of the Costa Blanca for a few days.

Gastronomy, cafés, good medical care right by the sea - it's the little things that make Albir so pleasant. The town is easy to get around on foot, car parking is available and the atmosphere is friendly, open and relaxed.

Experience nature: Serra Gelada and the lighthouse trail

The Serra Gelada Nature Park, a protected area with spectacular cliffs and well-developed hiking trails, begins just a few steps from the centre. Particularly popular: the path to the Faro de l'Albir, a small lighthouse with sweeping views over the Mediterranean. The walk is easy to do even in summer temperatures and offers the opportunity to enjoy the landscape - far away from the hustle and bustle of the neighbouring villages.

A place with a past: the Roman baths

Anyone interested in history will be fascinated by the Baños Romanos de l'Albir The excavations have uncovered the well-preserved remains of a Roman bath complex right on the edge of the village. The excavations are open to the public and provide an insight into the early settlement of the region.

Art & Peace: Fundación Klein-Schreuder

An insider tip is the Fundación Klein-Schreuder, a sculpture garden on the outskirts of the city. Here, modern art meets Mediterranean vegetation - a place of tranquillity that is regularly open for exhibitions, readings and small concerts.

Public holidays and weekly market: everyday life with structure

The Weekly market in Albir takes place every Sunday morning a meeting place for locals and residents, where fresh fruit, clothing and regional products take centre stage.

The Festival de Cine in July, which also puts Albir in the spotlight of the Spanish film world for a week, is firmly anchored in the annual calendar. The year is complemented by local patron saint festivals and smaller cultural events, which are usually organised in collaboration with the municipality of Alfaz del Pi.

Life in Albir - what makes the place special

Albir is clearly laid out, well structured and excellently developed. There are multilingual doctors' surgeries, international schools, good public transport connections and a wide range of properties - from flats with sea views to quiet townhouses in the hinterland.

But above all, the town offers tranquillity and infrastructure, a rare combination on the otherwise very lively coast. Many who once came as holidaymakers have stayed - and now live their everyday lives here. Without the hustle and bustle, but with everything you need.
