Between island and the mainland - One family, two hearts

Zwischen Insel und Festland – Eine Familie, zwei Herzensorte

Manuela Rehagel and Roman Ebmeier have been living in Spain since 2007. With the island newspaper and the island magazine, they have their base on Mallorca. their base. Now they are bringing their experience and their passion to the Costa Blanca - with with a magazine that connects.

A café con leche with... Manuela Rehagel, editorial director and marketing expert, and Roman Ebmeier, managing director and sales strategist at Mediagroup Balear. Together, they have established the island newspaper Mallorca - and launched another media project outside Mallorca last August with the CostaBlanca Magazine.

You took the plunge in 2007 - with a small child and grandparents to Mallorca. What was your motivation back then?
Manuela: It was clear to us that we wanted a life with more quality, with more languages for our daughter, a different kind of freedom - and above all to be together as a family. Our daughter was just one year old and my parents were also accompanying us, so „emigration light“ is much easier when everyone is there. Today, looking back, it was the best step we could have taken. Even though the initial period coincided with the 2008 crisis and brought real challenges for us ...

Roman: And this step became more than just a change of location: it was the start of a joint life and work project. With the island newspaper, which we founded in 2013 and have continuously expanded, we have created a strong medium for residents and holidaymakers. The island magazine was added later - with a focus on building and living or Mallorca.pro for professionals. And all this with a great team that we have been able to rely on for many years.

Manuela: The idea of IZ was there from the start: Not just an advertising paper or news ticker - but an entertaining, informative medium with journalistic standards. That's exactly what made us strong - and we're now taking that with us to the Costa Blanca.

What appeals to you about the Costa Blanca - both privately and professionally?
Manuela: The Costa Blanca has actually been with us for a long time - my family was often here in the 80s and 90s and we learnt to love the region. Fortunately, I was able to inspire my husband Roman and our daughter during our first holiday here together. Our plan in 2024 was actually to create a private retreat here, without any business intentions. But then the idea of realising our magazine concept here came about quite quickly.

The Costa Blanca has a special openness, is a little more down-to-earth and relaxed than the island - and this is exactly what suits our idea of a medium that accompanies life here in a friendly and relevant way.
Roman: It's not a classic location in that sense, rather a new stage for tried and tested ideas. We are bringing our expertise from Mallorca with us - but the team here on site is new: sales and an additional editor have just started. The graphics continue to be handled by our head office in Mallorca, which ensures continuity in terms of quality and style. For us, it feels like a fresh start, but with the strong foundation of many years of experience.

What makes your magazine different than others - and what does that mean for you personally?
Manuela: We report on life here - with all its beautiful, exciting and sometimes challenging aspects. For us, good news and information take centre stage: more quality of life, less hustle and bustle. Our daughter grew up here, speaks four languages, lives in both worlds and now helps in the online division of the Mediagroup alongside the Bachillerato - that shows how much this life works.

Roman: Commuting between Mallorca and the Costa Blanca always gives us new perspectives. The island is our home, here in Alfaz we are discovering new freedoms. This attitude to life flows into everything we do. Like IZ, CBM is not just a job - it's a part of our everyday lives.

Proven quality - in a new place
With the island newspaper Mallorca, Manuela Rehagel and Roman Ebmeier have proven how to build a local medium with depth and heart. Now they are bringing this recipe for success to the Costa Blanca - with team spirit, passion and a clear eye for the positive.
