Tennis & Padel - racket sports on the Costa Blanca

Tennis & Padel – Boom an der weißen Küste

From international academies to recreational matches: tennis and padel are growing rapidly on the Costa Blanca and characterise the region's sporting landscape.

After hiking and cycling, the focus continues with a sport that shines in two facets on the Costa Blanca: tennis and padel. While tennis has been firmly anchored in the region's clubs for decades, padel is experiencing a boom rarely seen in any other sport. Both together characterise the picture - from international academies to spontaneous matches between friends.

Padel - from recreational fun to tournament sport
There are now hardly any towns without the characteristic glass and metal cages. Whether in Benidorm, Altea or Albir - new padel courts are being built almost every month. The sport is quickly explained, easily accessible and immediately fun in doubles.

This mixture explains why so many people try it out. There are also international competitions: World Padel Tour tournaments have stopped off in Alicante and Benidorm, bringing additional attention to the region.

Tennis - the constant greatness
While padel is growing rapidly, tennis has never lost its place. Clubs such as those in Jávea, Dénia and Altea are meeting places for residents and holidaymakers. There are regular tournaments, coaching sessions and open club evenings. Youth work is particularly noticeable: children and young people train several times a week, some with the aim of making the leap to competitive level.

Academies with international influence
One flagship is the „Equelite Juan Carlos Ferrero Academy“ in Villena, where talented players from all over the world work under professional conditions. Academies have also been established in Alicante and the surrounding area, offering programmes for young players and ambitious adults. For many families, this is a reason to choose the Costa Blanca not only as a holiday destination, but also as a location for training and sport.

La Nucía as a sports city
La Nucía is a particularly impressive example of how seriously the region takes racket sports. The „Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano“ has more than 30 padel courts, several tennis courts and modern infrastructure that fulfils even international standards. National championships, international tournaments and training camps are regularly held here. The facility has long been a flagship - and emphasises that the Costa Blanca plays a leading role in racket sports.

Sport between everyday life and career
Tennis and padel are perfect examples of how broad the sporting landscape is on the Costa Blanca. For some, it is a weekly balance after work, for others it is the chance to pursue a sporting career. And for the region, it is an economic factor - from the clubs and coaches to hotels that advertise special sports packages.
