Dénia sets new licences for tourist rentals for one year
The city council of Dénia has decided to suspend the issuing of new permits for tourist rentals in the city centre for a year in view of the increasing conflicts between residents and tourists. This measure, which has also been extended to the conversion of ground floors into holiday flats, is intended to counteract the growing tensions caused by the increasing number of tourist accommodations.
In recent years, the number of holiday flats in Dénia has increased dramatically and now stands at around 5,000, which has led to considerable problems in terms of coexistence. The city council is planning to fundamentally rethink the tourist flat model in order to protect the quality of life of local residents. During this one-year suspension, further measures will be evaluated on the basis of studies by the University of Alicante and possibly implemented.
