Beaches and bays with character on the Costa Blanca

Küstenlinie mit Charakter – Strände und Buchten von Dénia bis Villajoyosa

From Dénia to Villajoyosa - between sunbathing comfort, water quality and quiet retreats: a survey of the coast for those who want more than just a swim.

The approximately 70 kilometres of coastline between Dénia and Villajoyosa is familiar to many - at least on the surface. But away from the well-known promenades and main beaches, there is a variety of bays and stretches to be rediscovered. In this issue, we take a look at the special places along the northern Costa Blanca: Blue Flag beaches, family-friendly sections, barrier-free access and hidden coves that may be unknown even to long-time residents.

Hidden treasures of the coast
Some of the most remarkable places are only accessible on foot, via narrow paths or by boat. Cala Llebeig near Benitachell, for example, is a secluded bay that is only accessible via a coastal footpath or from the sea. Its remoteness and natural beauty make it a special destination for hikers and nature lovers.

In Benidorm, known for its lively beach culture, there are also quiet retreats.

Cala del Tío Ximo and Cala Almadrava offer a quieter alternative to the lively main beaches and are particularly popular with locals who want to escape the hustle and bustle.

Beaches with distinction and infrastructure
The region has numerous beaches that have been awarded the Blue Flag - a sign of high water quality, safety and environmental management. Beaches such as Playa del Arenal in Jávea or Playa de la Fossa in Calpe not only offer clean water, but also facilities such as barrier-free access, playgrounds and lifeguard services, which make them particularly family-friendly.

Invitation to rediscover
The focus in this issue is an invitation to explore the coast between Dénia and Villajoyosa in a new way. There is plenty to discover off the beaten track: from secluded coves and excellent beaches to places with special infrastructure for different needs. In the following articles, we will introduce you to these special places and give you practical tips for your next trip to the sea.
