Teulada - country markets, viticulture & traditional festivals

Rural structure, historic centre and modern connections

Teulada is the original capital of the municipality of the same name, Teulada-Moraira. While Moraira epitomises coastal life, inland Teulada offers a more rural, established structure with a strong regional character - but also a surprisingly good infrastructure and connections. The town is located around 4 kilometres from the coast, slightly elevated between vineyards, almond plantations and pine groves. Those who know Teulada will appreciate the combination of a traditional townscape and everyday organisation - especially for long-term residents who are looking for tranquillity, authenticity and a realistic price level.

Urban development & history

Teulada is a historically grown town with an agricultural character that has served as a market centre since the Middle Ages. The expansion towards the coast only began in the 20th century with the rise of Moraira. Teulada itself remained structured, with a low building volume, close social networking and municipal control. Today it is the administrative and organisational centre of the municipality, with a clear separation between the inland and coastal areas.

Townscape & everyday life - tradition meets structure

The historic centre of Teulada is well preserved and exudes an authentic Valencian atmosphere. Natural stone alleyways, whitewashed houses, small courtyards and the Gothic church of Santa Catalina Mártir characterise the picture. Around the centre you will find supermarkets, cafés, banks, pharmacies, medical care, a modern sports centre as well as cultural and meeting places.

The town is lively, but not hectic. People work, live and work here - without a tourist focus. The urban infrastructure is complete, the administration is efficient and everyday life works even without a coastal location.

Weekly market in Teulada

Benidorm offers two Weekly markets:

The larger Weekly market on Friday in the Foietes neighbourhood (near the sports centre)
The Sunday market in the Rincón de Loix - a favourite with international guests

At this market you can discover fresh fruit, vegetables, local delicacies, clothing and household items - accompanied by a lively atmosphere that reflects the urban character of the city.

Festivals & events - living tradition with participation

Teulada is known for its deeply rooted patronal festivals, which are organised with great commitment by the locals and also actively involve newcomers and residents:

  • 🎉 Fiestas Patronales de Santa Catalina y San Vicente Ferrer (April): Multi-day festival with parades, religious celebrations, music and gastronomy
  • 🤺 Moros y Cristianos (June): Colourful festival with parades, costumes and music through the old town

🎶 Concerts, theatre and traditional dance evenings in the Auditori Teulada-Moraira - a modern event centre with a year-round cultural programme

Connection & accessibility

A real plus for residents is the Teulada TRAM railway station, which connects the town with Benissa, Calpe, Altea, Villajoyosa and Alicante. The transport options are complemented by bus connections and good links to the N-332 national road, meaning you can quickly reach Moraira, Dénia or the coast - without having to live in the coastal hustle and bustle.

Landscape & surroundings - close to nature and quiet

Teulada is nestled in a gently rolling landscape with vineyards, citrus groves and small farmsteads. Walking paths, viewpoints and cycle routes offer peaceful alternatives to the busy coastline. The nearby Font Santa nature reserve or the path to the Hermitage of Font Santa also offer nature experiences in the immediate vicinity.

Living in Teulada - affordable, organised, authentic

Teulada offers a good level of everyday structure without being overcrowded. In addition to the town council, there are several doctors, pharmacies, service providers, banks and local shops in the town. The proximity to the coast and Moraira provides access to maritime activities without having to live directly by the sea. Families, retirees and people looking for permanence in particular will find an attractive living environment here with a comparatively moderate property price level.
