Hiking is not only exercise, but also enjoyment. We have a few tips for rest areas, restaurants and cosy hostels in the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa regions - perfect for a well-earned break after a long hike.
Recreation in nature - rest areas
Many hiking trails on the Costa Blanca lead through impressive natural landscapes that are ideal for a break. One particularly picturesque place is the Barranc de l'Infern rest area in the Vall de Laguar. After a steep descent up the 6,800 steps of the „Barranco del Infierno“, there are several shady spots in the valley where you can enjoy the peace and seclusion of nature. Ideal for enjoying the peace and quiet with a picnic while you fortify yourself for the return journey.
Another highlight is the Parque Natural de la Sierra Helada. There are benches and shady spots at various points along the coast that are perfect for a break with a view of the sea. The viewpoint at Torre de les Caletes in particular offers a marvellous backdrop for a break. Make sure you bring enough water and provisions with you, as the region has few catered rest stops.
Culinary delights - Restaurants for hikers
If you really want to treat yourself after a hike, you should make a detour to the local pubs and restaurants in the region. In the villages and towns along the hiking trails, there are many small, family-run restaurants that cater to hikers. One of the best known is Venta La Montaña in Parcent. This traditional restaurant is located not far from the hiking trail to Coll de Rates and offers regional dishes such as grilled meat, stews and fresh salads - just the thing after a strenuous hike.
Another popular destination is Casa Susi in Tárbena. This cosy restaurant is located directly on the hiking trail through the mountains of Tárbena and is known for its home-made dishes. It serves a mixture of Mediterranean and typical Valencian dishes prepared with fresh, local ingredients. The perfect place to recharge your batteries after a hike while enjoying the panoramic views of the mountains.
Stay overnight in hostels and pensions
If you are planning a longer hike and would like to stay overnight en route, there are a number of hostels in the region that welcome hikers. One of these is the Refugio Marnes, a rustic accommodation in the mountains of Xaló. Here you can relax in cosy rooms after a long day of hiking and enjoy the tranquillity of nature. The friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to cook for yourself in the communal kitchen or enjoy a delicious breakfast are particularly noteworthy.
Another recommended accommodation is Finca el Tossal in Bolulla. This charming finca is located in the hills of the Marina Baixa and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After a day of hiking, you can relax in the pool or enjoy Mediterranean specialities in the in-house restaurant. The finca is particularly popular with hikers who want to explore the surrounding routes while enjoying the comfort of upscale accommodation.
