The European elections in the Alicante region produced an exciting result. The Partido Popular (PP) under the leadership of Luis Barcala once again won the majority in the city of Alicante. With a 39.43% share of the vote, the PP improved its result compared to the parliamentary elections on 23 June, but did not match the figures from the local elections on 28 June.<\/p>\n\n

In the European elections in Alicante, the PP under Luis Barcala once again asserted its supremacy with 39.43%, while the PSOE led by Teresa Ribera made slight gains with 30.39%, but remained behind the strongest party.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Socialists (PSOE), led by Teresa Ribera, achieved 30.39% of the vote and, despite a slight improvement compared to the local elections, were unable to prevail against the PP. Vox consolidated its position as the third strongest force with 11.45%, but suffered losses compared to the parliamentary and local elections.<\/p>

One surprise of the evening was the far-right group \u201eSe acab\u00f3 la fiesta\u201c, led by Alvise P\u00e9rez, which achieved 6.07% of the vote on its first election appearance. The Sumar coalition, consisting of Comprom\u00eds and the EU, fell short of the 5% threshold with 4.97% of the vote, which would have prevented it from entering parliament in local elections.<\/p>

A look at the potential distribution of seats on the city council shows that the PP would have thirteen MPs, the PSOE ten, Vox four and Alvise P\u00e9rez's grouping two. Other parties such as Comprom\u00eds and the EU would not have won a seat as they did not reach the minimum number of votes.<\/p>

Luis Barcala expressed his satisfaction with the results and emphasised the PP's successes at national, regional and local level. He emphasised that his party had once again won the trust of the voters. Ana Barcel\u00f3 from the socialist city council group expressed her general satisfaction, but emphasised the need to revise the agreements between the socialists, liberals and greens.<\/p>
