It is crucial to take the right steps at an early stage - from the first examination in the Centro de Salud<\/strong> until the child is registered with the Registro Civil<\/strong>.<\/p>

Medical care: getting started with the system<\/strong><\/h3>

Those with statutory insurance are insured via the Seguridad Social<\/strong> covered. The first port of call is the relevant health centre in your place of residence - whether in D\u00e9nia, J\u00e1vea, Benidorm, Torrevieja or Orihuela Costa. There, as a rule, a matrona<\/em> (midwife) coordinates the pregnancy, creates the \u201ecartilla de embarazo\u201c and plans the further appointments.<\/p>

Privately insured persons can also freely choose specialists or select a specific clinic for the delivery. Important: Clarify the scope of services and waiting times with the insurance company in good time.<\/p>

Preventive medical check-ups in the public system<\/strong><\/h3>

Statutory prenatal care includes, among other things<\/p>

  • Three regular ultrasound examinations<\/strong> (per trimester)<\/li>
  • Regular blood and urine tests<\/strong>, including screening for gestational diabetes<\/li>
  • Checking iron, vitamin and sugar levels<\/strong><\/li>
  • Birth preparation courses<\/strong> in health centres<\/li>
  • Specialised diagnostics for high-risk pregnancies<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>

    Additional ultrasound appointments or individualised services are usually only possible privately.<\/p>

    Birth on the Costa Blanca: public and private clinics<\/strong><\/h3>

    The region has several large maternity clinics - both public and private.<\/p>

        Spain has a clearly structured parental protection system:<\/p>

        • 16 weeks maternity leave<\/strong>, fully tempered<\/li>
        • 16 weeks paternity leave<\/strong>, equalised<\/li>
        • Paid breastfeeding time<\/strong> (one hour per working day)<\/li>
        • Unpaid parental leave of up to three years per child<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>

          The benefits are paid via the Seguridad Social<\/strong> applied for. The prerequisite is a sufficient contribution period.<\/p>

          Financial benefits for families<\/strong><\/h3>

          In addition to maternity benefit, there are other benefits:<\/p>

          • One-off payment of 1,000 euros<\/strong> for low income or multiple births<\/li>
          • Tax relief of up to 1,200 euros per year<\/strong> (family deduction)<\/li>
          • Regional subsidies via the Generalitat Valenciana<\/li><\/ul>

            Important: Many applications must be submitted within six months of the birth.<\/p>

            After the birth: deadlines and formalities<\/strong><\/h3>

            Within 72 hours, the application is submitted to the Registro Civil<\/strong>. The newborn is then placed in the Seguridad Social<\/strong> reported in order to be medically insured.<\/p>

            Relevant for German-speaking parents: If you need a German birth certificate, please contact the relevant consulate in the Valencia or Alicante region.<\/p>
